Traditionally, one Northern Hemisphere side might play 2 or 3 tests against the same opposition. However this is changing a little in recent years with sides often playing a traditionally ‘Tier 2’ nation. Generally all of the top 20 sides in the world will be in action at some stage.
The Northern Hemisphere sides are usually coming to the end of their season and have reasonable form. Howwever, the Southern Hemisphere sides are starting their season ahead of The Rugby Championship. 🏆
The 2025 internationals is expected to be the last year in which “Tier I” countries compete in the non-organised format. This is following the creation of the Nations Championship. This is an upcoming competition scheduled to take place in the existing 2026 international windows.
The competition will consist of twelve teams. It will involve the current Six Nations and SANZAAR unions, as well as two unknown invited unions widely reported to be Fiji and Japan. The competition will be held in the years when there is no Lions tour or World Cup.
